Volleyball Recap: Western Wayne Wildcats vs. Montrose Meteors

If Western Wayne was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Scranton on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Montrose Meteors on Tuesday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Meteors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Western Wayne started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-20.

Lauren Beamer paced Western Wayne's offense, picking up 16 kills. Beamer got some help from Abbie Washine and her 18 assists. Phoebe Schmitt controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Western Wayne's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-4. As for Montrose, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.
