Basketball Game Preview: Asheville Christian Academy Lions vs. SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles

The Asheville Christian Academy Lions will challenge the SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Asheville Christian Academy will be strutting in after a victory while SouthLake Christian Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Asheville Christian Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 71-47 margin over Carolina Day on Tuesday. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Lions had established a 23 point advantage.

Asheville Christian Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sara Larios, who went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc on her way to 30 points along with eight steals and five assists. That's the most points Larios has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley Fuchs, who went 6 for 10 en route to 14 points in addition to eight boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, SouthLake Christian Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 49-45 to Metrolina Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Warriors are ranked 225th).

SouthLake Christian Academy's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season.
