Recap: Central Eagles vs. Chesterfield Golden Rams

The Central Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 49-38 defeat to Chesterfield. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central in their matchups with Chesterfield: they've now lost seven in a row.

Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordyn Griffin, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Taisha Quick was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Leading Chesterfield to victory were Kierra Diggs and Terrahjah Robinson. Diggs dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Robinson scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Diggs has scored at least 25% of Chesterfield's points. Another player making a difference was Trinity Turnage, who scored nine points.

Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Chesterfield, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Central will take on Cheraw at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cheraw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. As for Chesterfield, they will head out on the road to face off against York Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. York Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Chesterfield is ranked 103rd).
