Football Game Preview: Mitchell Mountaineers vs. Mountain Heritage Cougars

The Mitchell Mountaineers will head out on the road to take on the Mountain Heritage Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Mitchell is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Owen to the tune of 40-7 last Friday. The Mountaineers pushed the score to 34-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Warhorses cut but never quite recovered from.

One reason for the win was Mitchell's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. In that department, Isaiah Turner was the leader with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight.

Meanwhile, Mountain Heritage entered their tilt with Avery County on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They claimed a resounding 57-7 victory over the Vikings. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Vikings are ranked 388th).

Mountain Heritage's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Mitchell, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Mitchell was dealt a bruising 54-12 defeat at the hands of Mountain Heritage in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Mountaineers, Brandon Quinn (who rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 58 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
