Recap: Cranston East Thunderbolts vs. Cumberland Clippers

The Cranston East Thunderbolts fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Cumberland Clippers on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clippers. Cranston East has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cranston East's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Jiminez, who scored 22 points. That was a full 44% of Cranston East's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Bella Dupret was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Cumberland had a senior duo take command as Bridgitt Van Etten scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals and Allie Casavant scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Casavant hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Van Etten, who scored seven points.

Cranston East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Cumberland, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranston East will take on East Greenwich at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cranston East is coming into the matchup with three straight defeats at home, so East Greenwich is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Cumberland, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Rhode Island (Cumberland is ranked 26th, while Mt. Pleasant is ranked 46th).
