Preview: Carthage Bulldogs vs. Van Vandals
Carthage is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Van is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Carthage Bulldogs will take on the Van Vandals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Carthage on the road against Center as the team secured a 72-27 win. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 51-20.
Carthage found their leader in underclassman Jett Surratt, who threw for 413 yards and six touchdowns while completing 76.2% of his passes. Surratt hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Mikel Fields, who picked up 137 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Van's and Center's match two weeks ago was close at halftime, but Van turned on the heat in the second half with 28 points. Van put the hurt on Center with a sharp 56-36 victory. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Their wins bumped Carthage to 9-0 and Van to 7-1.
Carthage took their win against Van in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 41-15. Will Carthage repeat their success, or does Van have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
