Softball Recap: Venice's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Venice hadn't done well against Lakewood Ranch recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Venice Indians came out on top against the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs by a score of 10-7. The win was nothing new for the Indians as they're now sitting on six straight.

Jayde Neptune spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 14 hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Venice got a massive performance out of Riley Sullivan, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Sullivan has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Queen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Venice was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .406 or higher in five consecutive games.

Venice pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Lakewood Ranch, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Venice will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Parrish Community at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. Venice's pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so Parrish Community's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakewood Ranch, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cardinal Mooney at 7:00 p.m. Cardinal Mooney is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
