Softball Recap: Fort Calhoun Pioneers vs. Auburn Bulldogs
Fort Calhoun came tearing into Saturday's match with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they left with even more momentum. They skirted past the Auburn Bulldogs 7-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Pioneers also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2023.
Tacey Belina was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Belina was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run.
In other batting news, Kaylee Taylor was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Fort Calhoun didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with ten strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburn only tossed three.
Fort Calhoun has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. As for Auburn, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 18-10.
