Softball Recap: Alton Redbirds vs. Civic Memorial Eagles

Alton had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it 11. They lost 16-4 to the Civic Memorial Eagles. If the Redbirds were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Civic Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Considering they have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Civic Memorial's part, Bella Thien was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, Thien posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Zoey Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Alton will challenge Belleville East at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Civic Memorial, they will square off against Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
