Basketball Recap: Southwest Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Southwest and Business Engineering Science Tech squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Southwest had to settle for second. They took a 62-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Business Engineering Science Tech Eagles. The Patriots' loss signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Southwest lost, don't look at C.J. Howard. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-16 on his way to 31 points and five boards. The contest was Howard's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Chase Dupree, who posted ten points.

Business Engineering Science Tech's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Mickell led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Mickell has been hot for a while, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Alexander Barrett was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks.

Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 27-3. As for Business Engineering Science Tech, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-7 record this season.
