Baseball Recap: Franklinton Takes a Loss

If Franklinton was riding high fresh off their 13-1 takedown of Kerr-Vance Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Red Rams fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 9-8 on Thursday. The Red Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 13-1.

Conor Simpson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, William Holmes was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Franklinton is 2-1 when Holmes posts two or more runs, but 5-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Zirulnik, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Franklinton's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Kerr-Vance Academy, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-14.

As of now, neither Franklinton nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
