Volleyball Recap: Southwest EC Comes Up Short

Southwest EC lost against Calexico two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eagles lost 3-0 to the Bulldogs.

Southwest EC took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-13, 25-17.

Bayne Bernal paced Southwest EC's offense, picking up seven kills. Bernal got some help from Ismael Razo and his ten assists. Finally, Bernal was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Calexico had a senior duo take command as Gerardo Diaz had 26 digs and five aces and Jose Pablo Reyna had nine digs, five kills, and two aces. Reyna is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 18 or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jose Contreras, who had 12 digs and three aces.

Southwest EC has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-18 record this season. As for Calexico, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Southwest EC has already played their next game, a 3-2 defeat against Central on the 8th. As for Calexico, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Imperial on the 8th.
