Softball Game Preview: Benson Bobcats vs. Apache Junction Prospectors

The Benson Bobcats will face off against the Apache Junction Prospectors at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Apache Junction took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Benson, who comes in off a win.

Benson is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against San Miguel on Thursday as Benson made off with a 22-1 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bobcats with their most commanding win of the season.

Mandy Watson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Benson got a massive performance out of Kaylei Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits Taylor has posted since back in April of 2024. Millie Kellogg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Meanwhile, Apache Junction was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Valley Christian, falling 28-0.

The win made it two in a row for Benson and bumps their season record up to 7-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for Apache Junction, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Benson took their win against Apache Junction in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 13-1. Does Benson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Apache Junction turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
