Basketball Game Preview: Wilson Prep Tigers vs. Weldon Chargers

The Wilson Prep Tigers will take on the Weldon Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Wilson Prep didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Farmville Central by a score of 53-41 on Saturday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Jaguars are ranked 392nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weldon). They blew past Northampton County, posting a 55-24 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Chargers have posted against the Jaguars since February 22, 2020.

Wilson Prep better focus on containing Kamya Coles and Shaelyn Johnson as the pair were huge in Weldon's win. Coles dropped a double-double on 25 points and 22 boards, while Johnson went 8 of 14 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those 22 boards gave Coles a new career-high.

The win got Weldon back to even at 2-2. As for Wilson Prep, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
