Recap: Centerville Elks vs. Olentangy Orange Pioneers
There's no place like home for The Centerville Elks, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 23-6 win over Olentangy Orange on Friday. Given Centerville's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Olentangy Orange is ranked 95th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centerville found their leader in underclassman Parker Johnson, who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries.
Another reason for the win was Centerville's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Mason Keely and his two sacks.
Centerville's victory was their tenth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 Lakota East and 2-9 Springboro (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 42.8% over those games). As for Olentangy Orange, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Centerville will be playing at home against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Olentangy Orange does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
