Basketball Game Preview: Mount Academy Eagles vs. Ellenville Blue Devils

Mount Academy is 0-6 against Ellenville since February of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Mount Academy Eagles will challenge the Ellenville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mount Academy took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They took down Chapel Field Christian 62-45. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 327th, while the Lions are ranked 900th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mount Academy had a senior duo take command as Jake Maendel dropped a double-double with 31 points and 14 rebounds and Dennis Hofer dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Maendel's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Dominic Meier was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Ellenville had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.9 points) and they went ahead and made it ten. They strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 63-49.

Ellenville's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.4 points over those games. As for Mount Academy, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.

Mount Academy ended up a good deal behind Ellenville in their previous meeting on Tuesday, losing 63-49. Can Mount Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
