Baseball Recap: Hillsboro Victorious

Hillsboro barely beat Bunker Hill the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Hillsboro's pitcher stepped up to hand Bunker Hill a 15-0 shutout on Monday. With that victory, the Hiltoppers brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Eli Zaidi was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nathan Matoush and Ryder Dettman did most of the damage at the plate: Matoush scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Dettman scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave Dettman a new career-high. Sawyer Hindle was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Hillsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bunker Hill only posted an OBP of .143.

Hillsboro's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Bunker Hill, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
