Baseball Recap: Basalt Comes Up Short

Basalt had lost three straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 8-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the Colorado Academy Mustangs by a score of 7-6. The Longhorns were not able to make up for their loss to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Elias Schendler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Basalt is 4-2 when Schendler posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

As for Colorado Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On Colorado Academy's side, Liam Driver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Driver posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Riley Summers was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Ben Bridich was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Basalt will welcome Rifle at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Longhorns are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Colorado Academy, they will head out to face off against Forge Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Fury will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight.
