The East Providence Townies will face off against the Narragansett Mariners at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. East Providence will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
On Thursday, East Providence needed a bit of extra time to put away Portsmouth. They won by a run and slipped past the Patriots 7-6.
Timothy Robitaille made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Robitaille was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brian Rutkowski was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aidan Martins, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
East Providence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, Narragansett gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They never let Johnston get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Mariners not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024.
Like East Providence, Narragansett also got a great game from a two-way player: Keller Prendergast. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Prendergast was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jackson DiFilippo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Vito Paglia was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
East Providence's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Narragansett, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
East Providence took their win against Narragansett in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Townies repeat their success, or do the Mariners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
