Basketball Recap: Evansville Reitz Falls Short of Gibson Southern in the Playoffs

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Evansville Reitz couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 47-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gibson Southern Titans. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Titans: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Evansville Reitz lost on Saturday, don't look at Bailey Hape. Despite the final result, she went 7 for 15 on her way to 20 points along with five boards and three steals. Kaelyse Mitchell was another key player, putting up five points in addition to seven rebounds and four blocks.

Gibson Southern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gabby Spink, who posted 20 points along with eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Paige Schnaus, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Evansville Reitz's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Gibson Southern, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
