Basketball Recap: Caden Gibbons' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Penn Cambria over Westmont Hilltop

Penn Cambria lost against Westmont Hilltop back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Penn Cambria Panthers took a 72-63 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westmont Hilltop Hilltoppers. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caden Gibbons, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Gibbons is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last three games he's played. Preston Farabaugh also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Penn Cambria was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. This was only their sixth loss (out of 18 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westmont Hilltop to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jack Wesner, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 22 points along with five assists and five steals. Caden Miller was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 21 points.

Penn Cambria's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Westmont Hilltop, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season.

Penn Cambria has already played their next match, an 80-52 loss against Trinity on the 8th. As for Westmont Hilltop, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-40 defeat against Aliquippa on the 8th.
