Woodgrove has gone a perfect 5-0 against Briar Woods recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wolverines will venture away from home to face off against the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Woodgrove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.7 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Woodgrove got the win against Freedom by a conclusive 8-2. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Abby Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Woodgrove let Addie McCullers and Evelyn Barker run wild. McCullers went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Barker scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Barker a new career-high. Ella Robles also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Woodgrove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in eight consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Briar Woods entered their tilt with Loudoun County on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Captains a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Falcons' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The result came thanks to Caprice Bohmer's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
Woodgrove pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Briar Woods, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Briar Woods' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodgrove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. It's a different story for Briar Woods, though, as they've only averaged .342. Will they be able to contain Woodgrove's hitters?
Woodgrove was able to grind out a solid victory over Briar Woods when the teams last played back in May of 2023, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
