The Mount View Golden Knights will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Richwood Lumberjacks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Mount View beat Van 8-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Knights.
Kyrece Hughes and Hunter Muncy were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hughes pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Muncy struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. At the plate, Hughes scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Muncy went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Seth Hall was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of David Little, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Richwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past Greenbrier West 15-4 on Friday. With that victory, the Lumberjacks brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.
Like Mount View, Richwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Giles. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Giles has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Richwood got a big performance out of Jaden Jantuah, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, Jantuah posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Grady Hall was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Richwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greenbrier West only posted a batting average of .176.
Richwood's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Mount View, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
