Baseball Game Preview: Milton Red Hawks vs. Watertown Goslings

The Milton Red Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Watertown Goslings at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Milton 2.7, Watertown 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Friday, Milton narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Sun Prairie East 3-2. That's two games straight that the Red Hawks have won by just one run.

Milton got a great performance from Nathan Birkhimer as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Birkhimer posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four contests.

At the plate, Milton's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Schultz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two hits gave Schultz a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Watertown didn't have quite enough to beat Milton on Thursday and fell 2-1. The Goslings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Milton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Watertown, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Milton came out on top in a nail-biter against Watertown when the teams last played on Thursday, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
