Basketball Recap: Falls Lake Firebirds vs. Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles
Falls Lake unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 68-48 to the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles on Friday. The Firebirds were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.
Falls Lake's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marli Seibles, who posted 17 points and six boards. Jeneen Mason was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.
Uwharrie Charter Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Naimah Al-Arif out in front who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten assists. What's more, Al-Arif posted two blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Staples, who shot 67% from the field to rack up 17 points and six rebounds.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Falls Lake will face off against Bunn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they will square off against Cedar Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
