League recap: Dunlap breaks off league-leading run for Custer County

1A Tri-Peaks recap September 4, 2013

Custer County's Sam Dunlap recorded the longest rushing play in 1A Tri-Peaks this season in his game against Crowley County last week. Dunlap ran for 71 yards on the play and finished with 71 on the day as his team lost to the Chargers.

Fans got a thrill when Nathan Lowe and Alec Coscarella connected against Center. The connection was good for 54 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.

Sean Daniels was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 171 yards on 14 carries as Rye lost to the Vikings. Teammate A.J. Vinci added to the ground attack by rushing for 46 yards.

Coscarella was the best receiver in 1A Tri-Peaks this week as the Spartans fell to Center.

Keegan Wentz put up the best numbers through the air as Buena Vista defeated Alamosa. He finished with a total of 9 completions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wentz's favorite target this week was Zakk James, who caught 4 passes for 42 yards.

Will Osborne made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Demons bested the Maroons. The 6-foot-1 senior.

6-foot-0 quarterback Wentz of Buena Vista is the league leader in passing yards this season with 138. He has also thrown 2 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Coscarella. The Salida star has 1 catches for 54 yards.

Colorado Springs Christian was the team made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to third in the league. The Lions vanquished St. Mary's 9-8 earlier in the week.
