Football Recap: Cummings Comes Up Short

Cummings was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 40-28 to the Person Rockets.

Defeat or not, Cummings got some senior leadership from Jakori McNair and Devin Witherspoon. McNair rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown, while Witherspoon rushed for 60 yards and a pair of scores.

Person's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elijah Thomas, who rushed for 165 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Thomas is becoming a predictor of the Rockets' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Pope, who rushed for 116 yards and two scores on only 12 carries.

Cummings' loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Person, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-3.

Cummings has already played their next game, a 34-6 defeat against Western Alamance on the 17th. As for Person, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-18 loss against Southern Alamance on the 17th.
