Softball Game Preview: Courtland Cougars vs. King George Foxes

Courtland hasn't had much luck against King George recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Foxes at 4:30 p.m.

Courtland is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Caroline.

Brystal Newman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Buchanan, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, King George came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Blue Devils with a sharp 8-1 win. Considering the Foxes have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kelsea Minter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kallie Slovack, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Selena Buckwalter also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

King George pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Courtland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
