Recap: Elliot Christian Eagles vs. Big Valley Christian Lions
The Elliot Christian Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 16th straight loss. They took a 70-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Big Valley Christian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (56), Elliot Christian still had to take the loss.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremy Nielsen, who scored 28 points along with five assists and five rebounds. That was a full 43.8% of Elliot Christian's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Gaither, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Big Valley Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Titus Boone, who scored 22 points along with five steals. Boone is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Helm, who scored 18 points along with two steals.
Elliot Christian dropped their record down to 4-17 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Big Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6.
Elliot Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Millennium at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in California (Elliot Christian is ranked 1192nd, while Millennium is ranked 1195th). As for Big Valley Christian, they will head out on the road to take on Turlock Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Turlock Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
