Basketball Recap: Jackpot Takes a Loss

If Jackpot was feeling good fresh off their 47-26 takedown of Carlin on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Jackpot Jaguars took a 47-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Owyhee Braves on Saturday. The Jaguars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 51-46.

Despite the loss, Jackpot still got an impressive performance from Jorge Avila, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds. Avila is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Angel Martinez, who posted 14 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Jackpot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

It was another big night for Rolando Espitia, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards for Owyhee. That makes it four consecutive games in which Espitia has scored at least a third of Owyhee's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Treyvyn Hanks, who had eight points and eight rebounds.

Jackpot's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Owyhee, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-13 record this season.

Jackpot will host Carlin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jackpot is facing Carlin at the right time seeing as Carlin is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Owyhee, they are taking a road trip to challenge Lund at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Owyhee is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
