Softball Game Preview: Amsterdam Rams vs. Mayfield Panthers

The Amsterdam Rams will head out to take on the Mayfield Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mayfield took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Amsterdam, who comes in off a win.

Amsterdam is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Gloversville by a score of 8-4 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.

Carolyn Agresta was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Elianna Tirado, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Amsterdam was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Mayfield was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell just short of Duanesburg by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered against the Eagles since May 10, 2017.

Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was October Herting, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Herting has brought in this season.

Mayfield now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Amsterdam, their record is now 2-8.

Amsterdam suffered a grim 19-6 defeat to Mayfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
