Soccer Game Preview: Warren County vs. James Wood

Warren County hasn't had much luck against James Wood recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home pitch against the Colonels at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Warren County took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They blew past Liberty 7-4. Warren County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, James Wood kept a clean sheet against Liberty on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 2-0. The final result isn't all the surprising considering James Wood's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Liberty are ranked 256th).

Warren County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those four matchups. As for James Wood, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-3-2.

Warren County suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to James Wood when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
