Gatesville lost to Burnet back in September of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Hornets snuck past the Bulldogs with a 15-9 victory. The 15-point effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

A big part of Gatesville's win came down to the chemistry between Gehrig Keeton and his top target Amos Phillips. Keeton threw for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Phillips picked up 123 receiving yards and one score.

Gatesville's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Burnet, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Gatesville will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on La Vega at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. This will be the Hornets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Burnet, they will face off against Lake View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Chiefs/Maidens' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.2 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
