Softball Game Preview: West Blocton Tigers vs. Demopolis Tigers

West Blocton and Demopolis are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2015, but likely not for long. West Blocton will square off against Demopolis at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. West Blocton is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.

It was a proper cat-fight when West Blocton duked it out with Pelham on Thursday. The Tigers came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 9-4. The game was the first time the Tigers have beaten the Panthers on their field since March 18, 2023.

The team relied heavily on Crimson Calhoun, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacey Register, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Blocton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pelham only managed six hits.

Northside hit Demopolis with a six-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 14-2 to the Rams. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

West Blocton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Demopolis, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-19 record this season.

Everything went West Blocton's way against Demopolis in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as West Blocton made off with an 8-2 win. Will West Blocton repeat their success, or does Demopolis has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
