North Central gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They put the hurt on the North Vermillion Falcons with a sharp 29-7 victory. For the Thunderbirds, this counts as revenge for the 48-13 win the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Lane Phegley had a dynamite game, throwing for 113 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 77 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making two total tackles. North Central's leading receiver Sawyer Cox was Phegley's top target yet again, picking up 78 receiving yards and one score.

North Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lane Simmons and Greydyn Walters.

Coming up, North Central will face off against North Daviess at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Thunderbirds' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for North Vermillion, they will take on Paris at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
