Recap: North Tampa Christian Academy Titans vs. Gateway Eagles
There's no place like home for the North Tampa Christian Academy Titans, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They took down Gateway 71-52 on Saturday. Given North Tampa Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Gateway is ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Tampa Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Toni Bryant , who almost dropped a triple-double on 21 points, nine rebounds, and 11 blocks. Bryant is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Landyn Colyer, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Gateway lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tavian Cook. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 31 points and 16 rebounds. The matchup was Cook's tenth in a row with at least ten points.
Gateway struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as North Tampa Christian Academy racked up 14 assists.
North Tampa Christian Academy's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.33 points. As for Gateway, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.
North Tampa Christian Academy will head out on the road to face off against Winthrop College Prep Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Winthrop College Prep Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. Gateway and South Fort Myers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South Fort Myers will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
