Baseball Recap: Atlantic Christian Wins Going Away Against Wildwood Catholic

The Atlantic Christian Cougars made easy work of the Wildwood Catholic Crusaders on Monday and carried off a 17-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Aiden Martin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Costello, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. He is becoming a predictor of Atlantic Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Luke Odell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Atlantic Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Atlantic Christian back to even at 3-3. As for Wildwood Catholic, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Atlantic Christian will face off against The Pilgrim Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wildwood Catholic, they will take on Bridgeton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wildwood Catholic is facing Bridgeton at the right time seeing as Bridgeton is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
