League recap: Vero Beach extends winning streak with victory over Jenkins

Adding to the longest winning streak in 8A District 8 this week, Vero Beach beat Jenkins 42-10. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Indians.

Vero Beach took down the Eagles 42-10 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dalton Stokes threw for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win.

Lenny Jankowski's team's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Spencer Chenoweth chipped in 36 yards. Jason pierre helped Vero Beach's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 68 yards.

He went 14-21 with 3 interceptions.

Stokes put up the best numbers in passing as the Indians defeated Jenkins. Stokes' favorite target this week was Will Dawkins, who caught 5 passes for 136 yards.

Vero Beach's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Indians feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Stokes has thrown for 914 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while pierre has 11 catches for 250 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Vero Beach takes on second place Central. Vero Beach bested Richard Tate's team last week, while Central defeated Sebastian River.

Treasure Coast made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,301 from 3,554. The improvement was largely due to a 10-7 victory over Treasure Coast last week.
