Basketball Recap: Evansville Memorial Piles Up the Points Against Mt. Vernon

Evansville Memorial's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mt. Vernon Wildcats 52-22. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while the Wildcats are ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the defeat, Mt. Vernon had strong showings from Abby Powell, who posted two points, and Josie Harshbarger, who had four points in addition to three steals and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Harshbarger a new career-high in blocks.

Evansville Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Mt. Vernon, they dropped their record down to 0-17 with the loss, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

Evansville Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Evansville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Evansville Central will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Evansville Memorial surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mt. Vernon, they will venture away from home to square off against Forest Park at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
