League recap: Mason County Central climbs in state rankings with win

West Michigan recap Oct. 16, 2012

Mason County Central moved up to 390 from 416 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Michigan. The Spartans were able to make the jump by besting Hart 42-22.

Oakridge extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Whitehall, 40-27. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.

Keenon Aylor was the best wideout in the league this week as Montague defeated North Muskegon. Aylor racked up four receptions for 70 yards. Tim Blackmer helped Montague's passing attack out by catching two balls for 20 yards.

Jack Gautraud made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Norsemen fell to the Wildcats. The 5-foot-9 senior grabbed one interception.

Brandon Amstutz was the most productive running back in West Michigan this week. He ran for 200 yards on 22 carries as the Pirates bested North Muskegon. Randy Facundo also contributed to the rushing game with 91 yards on the ground.

Adrian Anderson put up the best numbers through the air as Mike Belmonte's team lost to Patrick Collins' team. He had a total of eight completions for 130 yards. Anderson's favorite target this week was Sam Powell, who caught two passes for 62 yards.

The Norsemen's Anderson and Powell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Anderson has thrown for 660 yards this season, while Powell, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 20 catches for 428 yards. Facundo from Hart leads the league in rushing with 674 yards.

Shelby took down Ravenna 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
