League recap: First place up for grabs as East Hartford and Wethersfield jockey for top spot

Central Connecticut - North league recap: 5/7/12

First place in the league standings is up for grabs this week, as Wethersfield sits just 0.50 games back of East Hartford.

The Eagles made the biggest jump in the standings this week, moving from fourth to second place in the league thanks to a 2-1 record over the past seven days. Meanwhile, Glastonbury fell hardest in the standings, dropping from second all the way to fourth place after going 2-2 in the past week. First-place East Hartford (12-3, 6-2) went 2-1 over the past week.

Wethersfield boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, the Eagles have allowed just 45 hits, while striking out 60 batters. Brendan Smith leads the Eagles with 32 strikeouts in 30 innings.

Manchester's Max Dougan threw seven shutout innings in a 6-5 win over Conard on May 4, 2012. He struck out 11, allowing five hits.
