Basketball Recap: Mason Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

Mason won the last time they faced Sycamore and things went their way on Saturday too. The Mason Comets enjoyed a cozy 54-39 win over the Sycamore Aviators. Given the Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Aviators are ranked 139th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mason was led to victory by Taylor Stanfield and Anna Habra. Stanfield dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 rebounds, while Habra went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Stanfield is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Adaia Kesler, who posted six points.

Mason smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

Several Aviators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brooke Burgess, who earned 12 points. Emma Christerson was another key player, putting up eight points.

Mason pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Sycamore, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mason will challenge Lakota East at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lakota East will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Mason surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sycamore, they will take on Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Sycamore is facing Hamilton at the right time seeing as Hamilton is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
