Lincolnton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alan Rydell, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Rydell a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Bunker Hill came into Monday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past West Iredell 11-1 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bears considering their two-run performance the game before.
Ross Fickling made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Bunker Hill: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Fickling was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Braydon Marlowe was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Corey Canipe, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
The victory got Bunker Hill back to even at 6-6. As for Lincolnton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lincolnton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bunker Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
