Softball Recap: Villa Park Comes Up Short

Villa Park had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 13-14 to make it four. They lost 7-1 to the El Dorado Golden Hawks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for El Dorado, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-11 record this season. Considering they have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For El Dorado's part, Emily Yoon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits. Yoon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, El Dorado got a big performance out of Renay Chavez, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Remmi Marquez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Villa Park is set to face off against their familiar foe Sunny Hills at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, El Dorado will take on rival Sonora at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Hawks 2.4, the Raiders 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
