Softball Recap: Niles West Comes Up Short

Niles West came into this matchup off a tough eight-run defeat last Saturday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Amundsen Vikings by a score of 5-3 on Friday. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Penny Hutchison put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Hutchison wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Park, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Niles West and nudges their season record down to 10-16. As for Amundsen, their win bumped their record up to 15-13.

Niles West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Amundsen, they will face off against Saint Viator at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
