Baseball Game Preview: Benton Central Bison vs. West Lafayette Red Devils

For the second straight game, Benton Central will face off against West Lafayette. The Bison will host the Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Benton Central fell victim to West Lafayette and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 8-0 to the Red Devils. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

For West Lafayette's part, not much got past Korbyn Keen, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Benton Central off the board. Keen also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Red Devils are 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise.

At the plate, LJ Whitford was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ben Werth, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

West Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

West Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Benton Central, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
