Baseball Recap: Murray Spartans vs. Park City Miners
Murray extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-11. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Park City Miners. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-8 on Tuesday.
Brody Sofonia put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Taylor Shelton made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Easton Horman was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Park City, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 9, 2025.
On Park City's side, they got a great performance from Brooks Baganz as he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits.
On the hitting side, Cole Hill and Kai DeLong did most of the damage at the plate: Hill got on base in three of his seven plate appearances with two RBI and one double, while DeLong went 4-for-5 with one run. Those four hits gave DeLong a new career-high. Cooper Prichard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
