Basketball Recap: Cyprus Comes Up Short

Cyprus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 63-10 defeat at the hands of the Bountiful RedHawks. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the RedHawks are ranked 22nd).

Despite the loss, Cyprus still got an impressive performance from Calee Sharp, who posted seven points. That was a full 70% of Cyprus' points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Bountiful got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mae Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Taylor Harvey, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Cyprus' loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Bountiful, they pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Cyprus didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-28 defeat against Riverton on the 10th. As for Bountiful, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-42 win against Alta on the 10th.
