League recap: Lake Worth scores huge upset over Mineral Wells

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mineral Wells, who took down 451st ranked Mineral Wells, 39-14. Maverick Chitty threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 116 yards and caught one passes for eight yards in the win.

Lake Worth moved up to 646 from 748 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 6. The Frogs were able to make move up by topping the Rams 39-14.

Gilbert Castorena was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 141 yards as Mineral Wells beat Mineral Wells. Teammate Travis Mallory added to the ground attack by rushing for 29 yards.

Johnson was the best wideout in the league this week as Tal Sanders' team topped Chuck Lawrence's team. Johnson tallied three receptions for 95 yards. Cris Pringle helped Lake Worth's passing attack out by catching two balls for 48 yards.

Castleberry's Francisco Perez and JW Maxwell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Region I District 6 in both passing and receiving yards. Perez has thrown for 1265 yards this season, while Maxwell has 34 catches for 628 yards. The Rams' Castorena leads the league in rushing yards with 1115.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Lions take on Kennedale. At the moment, Castleberry is in fifth, while the Wildcats are in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Frogs take on Springtown. Lake Worth has allowed 128 points this season, while the Porcupines have given up 185. The Frogs allowed 14 points last week as they bested Mineral Wells.

There should be lots of points scored when Lake Worth and Springtown face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Frogs comes in having scored 192 this season, while Brad Turner's team has scored 182. Lake Worth scored 39 points last week as it beat the Rams.

Kennedale took down Diamond Hill-Jarvis 83-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
