Baseball Recap: Sun Valley Magnet Drops Season-High Score on Bert Corona Charter

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sun Valley Magnet). Everything went their way against the Bert Corona Charter Knights on Wednesday as they made off with an 18-4 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-0 back in March.

Diego Loredo was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Sun Valley Magnet is 6-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Loredo was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 11 games he's played.

In other batting news, Sun Valley Magnet let Manuel Marquez and Jesse Diaz run wild. Marquez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Diaz got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Diaz has posted since back in April of 2024. Manuel Baltazar also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Sun Valley Magnet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sun Valley Magnet pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Bert Corona Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5-1.

Coming up, Sun Valley Magnet will challenge Valley Oaks CES at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vanguards have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.7 runs per game on average), something the Pioneers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bert Corona Charter, they will face off against Triumph Charter at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
